What to Do When You Feel Drained (But Still Have a Whole Day Ahead)

Mile 0 is still a start—and that counts

There wasn’t a moment where I sat down, then decided I needed a reset.

No automatic thought of what my nervous system could really use.

In reality it was me walking into the kitchen, forgetting why I was there, looking at the mess, and just standing there for a second wondering how everything felt so disconnected.

And if I’m being honest, I wasn’t overwhelmed because of one big thing.

It was all the little things stacking up: the unread texts and emails, never ending to-do list, and the mental load that somehow seems to continue, even when I want my brain to shut off.

Nothing major. But enough to recognize that things were feeling like a bit too much.

So I did the most random thing first.

I cleared off a small spot on the counter.

Not the whole kitchen. Not even close. Just. One. Space.

And it didn’t fix everything—but it felt like I had a small weight lifted from my shoulders.

Then I grabbed a pen and paper and started writing out everything in my head.

Not in an organized way. Not in a “this is productive” kind of way.

It was more like:

  • One load of laundry

  • Remember to ask about the birthday plans

  • Check on that upcoming coffee subscription delivery date

  • Snacks?

  • Do I really need…

It was more like a bullet list of thoughts instead of a full on to-do list.

At some point, I picked one thing off that list.

I don’t even remember why that one. Probably because it was the simplest one. So I did it.

And then I walked around for a minute. Not a purposeful walk. Not a walk to get steps in.

Just a  walk to keep moving so I didn’t sit down and not get back up again.

And that was it.

The overwhelm seemed to subside, and I could move on with my day.

No full reset. No new routine. No big epiphany moment.

Just 10 minutes that somehow made the rest of the day feel a little less heavy.

Here’s What I Realized After

It wasn’t about doing all the things I had written.

It was about interrupting that stuck feeling, just enough to shift and give me momentum.

Not fix it, or solve everything. Just shift it.

And Maybe You’ve Had One of These Moments Too

Where you didn’t plan to reset.
You just did one small thing.

And somehow it helped more than you expected.

If that’s where you are right now—somewhere between “I should do something” and “I don’t even know where to begin”

This is your reminder:

It doesn’t have to be a whole system to make a difference.

Sometimes it’s just a random 10 minutes that changes the entire course of your day.

Until next time, enjoy the journey!
