No Kids, Just Magic: Why Disney Cruises Are Perfect for Adult Travelers
Captain Minnie salted caramel coconut latte
Imagine two moms talking about upcoming vacations and dreaming of tropical locations. As we were talking, my friend made the most shocking and confused face. What made her look so appalled? I told her my husband, and I were going on a Disney cruise by ourselves. Now that I’m back, I’m excited to tell her all about it!
I know what you're thinking. Disney is for families. For characters. For sticky fingers and princess tea and parents who are one meltdown away from a margarita. And you're not wrong—but you're also not seeing the full picture.

Because it turns out, Disney cruises aren’t just geared towards kids—they're secretly (well maybe only for so long…) one of the most relaxing, luxurious, and unexpectedly romantic vacations out there for adults. We were busy grabbing fancy coffee, attending late night events, going to drawing classes, embarking on an adult only port adventure, soaking in the hot tub, and—wait for it—having fun together again.
Let me break it down for you.

The Adults-Only Side of Disney You Didn’t Know Existed
Sure, there are kids on board—but there are also entire sections where they’re not allowed! That’s right, Disney has carved out little sanctuaries just for grown-ups. Here's what you can look forward to:
Quiet Cove Pool – No splashing, no crying, no kid music. Just hot tubs, a pool, lounge chairs, ocean breeze, and that book you've been pretending to read for six months.
Palo – This upscale, adults-only restaurant is highly coveted, and if you get a brunch reservation consider buying yourself a lottery ticket.
Senses Spa – This is the first time I’ve received a pedicure overlooking the ocean. All other pedicures from now on will have lots to live up to.
Cocktail Lounges – From classy alcohol tastings, themed lounges, and live entertainment, these are some of the best at sea.
Nightlife – Think live music, adult comedy shows, and trivia games that brought out our inner child and our competitive sides. Trust me, the late night shows always brought out the entertainment not for little ears (and many times from the onboard guests!)
We had late breakfasts (Mickey churro waffles). We had midday coffee breaks. We had conversations that didn’t involve logistics, homework, or “did you pack the snacks?”
The Mickey churro waffles didn’t even need the whipped cream
Disney Magic Without the Chaos (Literally, The Magic)
Here’s the wild part: when you remove the stress of parenting from the Disney experience, what’s left is pure, whimsical fun.
There was no need to plan around bedtimes, sprint to the kids club in order to be on time for an event, or even to beat a meltdown window. We weren’t refereeing sibling fights or carrying anyone back to the room who “couldn’t walk because their legs can’t move.”
Instead, we actually… relaxed. Our ship was named the Disney Magic, and it truly delivered. We even won trivia one day!
We won Magic Quest - celebrating the Gold!
We wandered the ship at our leisure. We stared at the ocean without a plan. We watched fireworks at sea while hugging one another and felt as if we just discovered Disney for the first time—except this time, we had wine.

Reconnecting Through Play (and Pirate Night)
Here’s where it got unexpectedly powerful. I seriously teared up.
When you’re constantly in “adult mode,” it’s easy to forget how to be playful. But this cruise? It was like a reset button.
While on the top deck during pirate night, we saw a man with a suit and tie holding a champagne cocktail waiting to see Mickey save the day (I don’t want to ruin it for you). It proved the fun really is for everyone if you allow yourself to be immersed into the magic.
Fireworks on pirate night
We attended the evening Broadway style shows. We dressed up for Pirate Night. We learned to even draw Mickey! We weren’t trying to impress anyone. We were just showing up as ourselves—and that felt like a rare and beautiful thing.
Laughing together. Being goofy together. Remembering that we’re a pretty fun couple when we’re not coordinating calendars or scrambling to pick up the house before guests arrive.

Turns Out, Our Inner Kids Get Along Really Well
Somewhere between the spa appointment and the late-night events, it hit me: we hadn’t felt this light in a long time.
The Disney Magic gave us permission to be joyful. To take off our "mom and dad" hats and just be. We didn’t have to plan every second or cater to our kids every need. We just had to show up—curious, open, and ready to be surprised.
And that surprise? It was exactly what our relationship needed. Here’s a few coaching questions we asked and considered about this adventure.

Final Thoughts: You Deserve This Kind of Magic
So, if you’ve ever side-eyed a Disney cruise thinking, “That’s just for families,” I invite you to rethink it.
It’s for dreamers. For nostalgia seekers. For couples who want to laugh until you cry and wear mouse ears at a champagne tasting without shame. It's for grown-ups who want to unwind without sacrificing a sense of wonder.
Until next time, enjoy the journey!
