The Cat Knew Best
Cat from the story…tearing through a birthday gift
There I was, perched in my living room chair, staring at my computer screen, determined to brainstorm blog post ideas. Outside, the trees were still mostly green, with only the faintest hints of brown creeping in. Everything felt calm, perfect for getting things done.
But that was short lived, as my cat had other plans. She leapt into my lap with all the subtlety of a mini furry tornado, nudged my laptop aside, and promptly proceeded to “make biscuits”. I thought about moving her, but then looked into her sweet gold eyes, and she pressed in closer. I sighed, resigned, and then I noticed something amazing.

My shoulders softened, and I stopped thinking about tasks, deadlines, and ideas. I simply pet her soft coat of fur and listened to her little purr. Time slowed. The world narrowed to that perfect little moment of connection.
Do you have moments like this in your day? Where you’re laser-focused on “getting stuff done” and then - bam - something, or someone hijacks your plans? If you have kids, the answer is almost always yes. Maybe it’s a spilled snack, a lost shoe, or a last-minute meltdown. Maybe it’s a call from your mom, or a cute interruption from your pet. Plans get disrupted. Schedules go sideways. Life just kinda happens.

Here’s the thing: sometimes, those interruptions are exactly what you need. Instead of fighting them, lean into them. Let the chaos, or your pet, remind you to pause, breathe, or even laugh. Maybe the best ideas, the happiest moments, or the little bursts of joy come when you least expect them. That’s truly embracing the joy in everyday life.
This week, try it. Let a tiny detour guide you to a moment of calm. Who knows? You might discover that slowing down for a bit - intentionally or not - is exactly what you were missing.
Until next time, enjoy the journey!
