The Mom’s Guide to Turning a Target Run Into a Mini Vacation
A few of the books I found for my kids - plus my coffee!
You know that feeling when you desperately need a vacation, but the only trip on your countdown calendar says 198 days away? You’re not alone.
Recently I discovered a magical mindset hack: pretend you’re on vacation at Target. I even went in with no makeup, hat on, messy bun and all.
This activity is no secret, so much so that you might even find a sweet friend there too - I did! While she only lives a few houses down, she too, was browsing at Target and found a few holiday things for herself and her kids.

Step 1: The Check-In
As the automatic doors open, take a slow, dramatic inhale. Congratulations, you’ve just arrived at Le Target (make it feel extra special and pronounce it as “Tar-zhay”) Resort & Spa. The air smells like seasonal candles and coffee. You are relaxed. You are free. You are unsupervised. Yes, this is a good thing!
Step 2: Spa Treatments (Personal Care Aisle)
Every resort has a spa, and yours happens to be well-stocked with enough choices to ensure you can have exactly what you want. Take your time. Smell the lotions, look at the newest nail colors, and find the latest in beauty trends. If nothing else, you can find your favorite lip balm to keep your lips hydrated during the colder months.
Step 3: The Poolside Bar (Starbucks Inside Target)
Order your favorite iced something. Bonus points if it’s a customized drink to your specifications. Just like on vacation you will probably be waiting at the bar for your drink. Look around, there’s a good chance you will be waiting with a handful of other moms just like yourself. Who says your favorite drink can’t help put you in a good mood?!

Step 4: Shopping Safari (Home Décor & Seasonal Section)
Explore the aisles like you’re discovering local treasures. Even clearance items can be hidden as a nice surprise at the register. Each throw pillow is a new souvenir. Every seasonal display is an immersive cultural experience. Your new finds are all part of the experience - especially if you score a find you dearly love.
Step 5: The Travel Isle
Where else in the store has a better travel theme than the travel aisle? Vacation vibes, check! It almost gives you a tease that there is only one aisle. From packing cubes to roller bags, neck pillows and everything in between. While you might not be on vacation, you can always check out the new travel related packing items.
Because sometimes, the best kind of vacation is the one you create in your head between errands.
Motherhood doesn’t always offer plane tickets or palm trees, but it does offer creative ways to see everyday life. And that’s close enough.

Mindful Moment Question:
What’s one everyday errand you could turn into a tiny escape, just by changing your mindset?
Until next time, enjoy the journey!
